Assignment #6

1. I really don't like to be scared. I am a person that want to know what is going on. I like to have a schedule and an order. I would be fine in a my house with no lights on. I am familiar with the surroundings and able to find my way around my house. I also could handle being scared in a barn. I am in a barn a lot and feel that I could manage.

2. Things that scare me are: snakes, spiders, bugs, and rats. These are also the things that I fear in the world. For me these things are horrific, but for other it might not. I hate to image a spider walking on me while I am asleep. I also don't like to think about a snake moving. This stuff really creeps me out. I think my fears come from my family members because they really don't like them either. I think I have grown up in fear of these things. I live in fear of planes because of 9-11, and will not fly because of it.

3. I think a good definition for madness is: a person that is driven beyond the point of insanity. They would have to due many crazy things. For a person to be considered mad, I think they have to have prof of what they are doing. They are doing thing that are not normal and would not be accepted in the society. Examples: killing people, rape, kidnapping, or holding people beyond their will.

4. I think that the people in our society, politics, and mental health. They start to do things that are out of order. People start to question what they are doing and why. This people that are crazy lead a closed life. They are fine on the outside, but completely change inside. There life is altered.

Assignment # 4

Task #1

I think the story was a good short story. I thought the beginning of the story was sad how Connie's mother always made her feel bad. She always looked down on her. In Connie's mother's eye Connie's older sister did everything right. If Connie was to ever do anything well, she would not even be glad for her. I believe this beginning brings the reader in because many mothers treat the second child like this. Also the fact that many kids can relate to feeling this way.
The one night Connie goes out she meets a guy. She hags out all night with the guy. Connie finally feels that someone was paying attention to her. The next day he comes to her house. The guys name is Around Friend. He is a lot older than she is. He starts to be nice and asked Connie if she wanted to go for a ride. Connie was unsure and she really did not want to go. She was starting to feel uncomfortable. Friend starts to get physical with Connie. He is trying to kidnap her. This whole scene takes place in Connie's house in the front yard. This setting is important because this is where everything happens in the story having to do with Friend. I believe that she was asking for trouble when she hags out with this guy, but I also believe she wanted so one to pay attention to her. I feel her mother is to blame for this because if she would of paid attention to her none of this would have happened. Connie would of not been looking for someone to pay attention to her.I think in the end she ends up getting kidnap. I feel that she just does not care want happens to her and she just gives up. I believe that Friend is someone that preys on little girls. He watches them and get to know their lifestyle and their family life. Then he makes his move. He reminds me of a molester in today's society.

Task # 2

#1 The setting should be in a natural environment, not in a made up environment. It should be real to the author.

#2 The character in the short story should have a purpose for being their. The author should make a physical description to help the reader understand the character.

#3 The author should not use extra words. The words should be chosen with meaning.

#4 The author needs to set up a good beginning and the start telling the reader about the conflicts. Get to the point of the story.

#5 I think stories should be told in the first person.

#6 I think the story should have some overall lesson for the reader to learn.

#7 A good short story should be about 5-6 pages double spaced. I think that this is a good length to get all the information across.

#8 It should be told from one point of view.

#9 The author needs to develop the main character and make the reader enjoy the main character.

#10 I think the genre should be non -fictions

This is my list of good short story.
