Reaction

I think it is really cool that you showed us these sites. I did not know where to go in Minnesota to get my play looked at. I think these sites where very intesting to look at.

Toward the Future/From the Past

1. I found my play to be hard to write at first, but after I started writing the lines just started coming out on the paper. A pleasant suprises that I found was how fun it is to actually right a play. One thing that I really found frustrating was the length requirenment. It first it was really hard to get to five pages, but then it all just started to fit together. I found this experience really fun and I would do it again.

2. I think that some ideas are my horses, sister, running away, childhood, school, friends, and family. I feel that the list could go on and on. It is really an endless list. I think in my story I would want to express the idea of what happened. Also the events leading up to the idea and what actually happened. I feel that my strongest topic to write about would be my family or my horse. I think that I would relate better to these topics because they are more current in my mind. It would be really hard to write something that was from my childhood. I think this would be really hard for me.

3. I think that I would choose to talk to a ten year old. The advice I would give them is make sure you be yourself. Don’t follow in the foot steps of others. Feel free to express your thoughts and ideas. I think that my advice would be off my own experiences and what I see other kids during. I was able to be myself at school, but I see other people not being their self just to impress someone else. I think that people just need to be true to themselves. This will make you a stronger person. At the age of ten I think that is when people start to change.

Assignment # 10

1. I think that the theme is the most important part of the story. It gives the reader a chance to understand what is going on. Also it makes the reader learn a lesson from the story. When I read, I always feel there is a reason to the story. The lessons I learn from the story are wonderful. The opposing view would say that you don’t need to have a theme in your story. The reader is able to look at the words a draw their own conclusions. This gives the reader the chance to explore the text more. I wonder if drawing your own conclusion is better.

2. I think that great literary works last forever because the words a so powerful in the text. The words are powerful so that people will not forget them. It takes a long time for a person to think of those powerful words. I can’t see myself writing something that would last a lifetime because I am a person that likes to write, but would rather keep it closed. I also think I would not write a work of art because I don’t want to become a writer.

3. I think my long-lasting impact on the world would be to treat people with respect. All people should be treated with respect. It should not matter because of gender, race, and religion. It is important to me because I see people everyday not getting respected because of their race or gender. It really bothers me. I think as a writer I could have a chance to change it because I would be able to write about it. It would get published in the newspaper. These would wake people up on theses issue.

I am a thinker and I think thinks

1. Something that really concerns me about the world is the peer pressure to smoke. I think that kids my age are just smoking because they want to fit in. These kids need to realize that smoking is not cool. I feel this why because I am a high school student and I see people at my school getting into smoking. It really bothers me.

2. One dynamic personality is a person that is really outgoing. I am going to call her Sarah. Sarah makes others feel good and important. She is a person that volunteers a lot. Sarah puts others needs before her own. One example is giving time to serve food to the needy. Sarah could want to go out and hang out with her friends, but she is giving her time up to help others.

3. The piece of art that has inspird me is the painting of my cat. My cat name was Boo. She was a great cat. Her painting hangs in my room. It makes me think of her and all the good times we had together. The painting brings me joy every time I look at it. It makes me think that she is watching down from heaven at me. She makes me want to do my best.

Assignment #7

1. I enjoyed writing about poetry. I found it to be free to express you interest. It was so open to what you want to write about. You could write about whatever. There were really no guide lines. It was just about what you wanted.

2. I think the strongest writing I have done this quarter is short story number two. I found something inside of me that I have never known before. I used to write about happy things, but in this piece I turned to the dark side. I feel that I could grow into this kind of writing.

3. I have learned that I can write about the dark side of life. It can go into the depressing side of the world. I am very self-driven to get my word done. I feel that sometimes I need help getting started, but once I am started I am able to finish the story.

4. I want to purse non-fiction memoirs. I think it would be cool to write about things based off of true events.

Assignment #6

1. I really don't like to be scared. I am a person that want to know what is going on. I like to have a schedule and an order. I would be fine in a my house with no lights on. I am familiar with the surroundings and able to find my way around my house. I also could handle being scared in a barn. I am in a barn a lot and feel that I could manage.

2. Things that scare me are: snakes, spiders, bugs, and rats. These are also the things that I fear in the world. For me these things are horrific, but for other it might not. I hate to image a spider walking on me while I am asleep. I also don't like to think about a snake moving. This stuff really creeps me out. I think my fears come from my family members because they really don't like them either. I think I have grown up in fear of these things. I live in fear of planes because of 9-11, and will not fly because of it.

3. I think a good definition for madness is: a person that is driven beyond the point of insanity. They would have to due many crazy things. For a person to be considered mad, I think they have to have prof of what they are doing. They are doing thing that are not normal and would not be accepted in the society. Examples: killing people, rape, kidnapping, or holding people beyond their will.

4. I think that the people in our society, politics, and mental health. They start to do things that are out of order. People start to question what they are doing and why. This people that are crazy lead a closed life. They are fine on the outside, but completely change inside. There life is altered.

Assignment # 4

Task #1

I think the story was a good short story. I thought the beginning of the story was sad how Connie's mother always made her feel bad. She always looked down on her. In Connie's mother's eye Connie's older sister did everything right. If Connie was to ever do anything well, she would not even be glad for her. I believe this beginning brings the reader in because many mothers treat the second child like this. Also the fact that many kids can relate to feeling this way.
The one night Connie goes out she meets a guy. She hags out all night with the guy. Connie finally feels that someone was paying attention to her. The next day he comes to her house. The guys name is Around Friend. He is a lot older than she is. He starts to be nice and asked Connie if she wanted to go for a ride. Connie was unsure and she really did not want to go. She was starting to feel uncomfortable. Friend starts to get physical with Connie. He is trying to kidnap her. This whole scene takes place in Connie's house in the front yard. This setting is important because this is where everything happens in the story having to do with Friend. I believe that she was asking for trouble when she hags out with this guy, but I also believe she wanted so one to pay attention to her. I feel her mother is to blame for this because if she would of paid attention to her none of this would have happened. Connie would of not been looking for someone to pay attention to her.I think in the end she ends up getting kidnap. I feel that she just does not care want happens to her and she just gives up. I believe that Friend is someone that preys on little girls. He watches them and get to know their lifestyle and their family life. Then he makes his move. He reminds me of a molester in today's society.

Task # 2

#1 The setting should be in a natural environment, not in a made up environment. It should be real to the author.

#2 The character in the short story should have a purpose for being their. The author should make a physical description to help the reader understand the character.

#3 The author should not use extra words. The words should be chosen with meaning.

#4 The author needs to set up a good beginning and the start telling the reader about the conflicts. Get to the point of the story.

#5 I think stories should be told in the first person.

#6 I think the story should have some overall lesson for the reader to learn.

#7 A good short story should be about 5-6 pages double spaced. I think that this is a good length to get all the information across.

#8 It should be told from one point of view.

#9 The author needs to develop the main character and make the reader enjoy the main character.

#10 I think the genre should be non -fictions

This is my list of good short story.

Assignment#3

Poem #1

Red

Red
A soul finally free
Flying through heaven
Watching over us
At peace in her world
Happiness finally found
In death
Released form ALS
Finally back to her old self
Leaving behind family
Starting a new journey
Forever loving Gene
Daughters and grandson
What does death really mean?
Release from pain
A new start for our eternal body
Still many unanswered questions
For the living,
Not knowing whether to go on
Questioning life, God, holy spirit?
Promising to come back as a dragonfly
Keeping our memories alive
But, waiting for us to enter the gates of heaven
Red

Poem #2

A ribbon

For me the color is blue,
But, red will also do,
For showing my horse,
At a county fair.

With great anticipation,
I sit on my horse,
Awaiting the fianl decision,
Oh, I hope we win a blue.
